Grimlanes privacy notice
Last updated 15 October 2026
Grimlanes is a game played through Twitch chat and the Grimlanes overlay extension on twitch.tv/grimlanes. This notice says what the game learns about you when you play, what it keeps, and how to have it removed.
Who runs it
Grimlanes is made and run by Bruce Vandeweyer, Belgium. For questions or requests, email hello@grimlanes.com.
What the game receives
- When you type a game command in chat (such as
!join): your Twitch user ID, your display name and the message. Twitch chat is public; the game only acts on lines that are game commands. - When you use the overlay extension: Twitch sends the game a signed token holding an anonymous ID, the channel's ID and your role (viewer, moderator or broadcaster). That alone doesn't say who you are.
- When you share your identity with the extension (Twitch asks on your first click): your Twitch user ID. The game then looks up your display name on Twitch. It never receives your email address or anything else from your account.
What it does with that
- Puts your soldier on the battlefield under your Twitch name and carries out your commands. A click in the overlay becomes the same command as typing it in chat.
- Shows your name on the stream: above your soldier, in the battle's events, in match results and on the leaderboard. Like chat, the stream is public.
- Sends your overlay only your own state: your soldier, your lane and your vote.
What it keeps
- The leaderboard: your Twitch user ID, your display name and your game stats (experience, kills, deaths, wins and matches played).
- A record of each match: who won, how long it took, how many played and the name of each side's best player.
Both stay on the game's server, a computer the developer runs in Belgium, for as long as the game runs. While the server is running it also holds its last few hundred log lines (commands and game events) in memory; they are not saved.
What it doesn't do
No ads, no analytics or tracking, and no cookies. Nothing is sold or shared. The overlay's files are served by Twitch, and its requests reach the game server through Cloudflare, which only carries the traffic.
This website
grimlanes.com sets no cookies and runs no analytics. Cloudflare hosts it and, like any web host, sees the address your browser connects from.
Your choices
- Type
!leaveto take your soldier off the field. - Revoke the overlay's access to your identity at any time from the extension's menu on the video. The overlay then can't play for you; typing in chat still works.
- Email hello@grimlanes.com to see what's stored about you or to have it deleted. Deleted stats are gone for good.
- If you live in the EU, you can also complain to your data protection authority. In Belgium that's the Data Protection Authority.
Why the game may use your data
You choose to play, and the game can't put you on the field without your Twitch ID and name. It uses them only to run the game and show it on stream (legitimate interest, GDPR article 6(1)(f)).
Age
Twitch requires its users to be at least 13. The game asks for nothing beyond what Twitch already shows.
Changes
If this notice changes, the new version replaces this page with a new date at the top.
